2013 Petit Verdot
Native to the Gironde River region of SW France, this high quality, late ripening grape is historically essential in adding color and spice to the great blended red wines of Bordeaux, France. It happens to do very well as a single varietal here in California.
The 2013 Middle Ridge Temecula Valley Petit Verdot is a perfect expression of this grape. On the nose you will find nutmeg, like moms French toast, white pepper, mild cherry pipe tobacco and a soft toastiness from the oak aging. As for flavors, look for cherry, spice with a hint of cranberry
Pair this wine with aged Irish cheddar cheese, sauteed shrimp with cherry tomatoes and garlic over penne pasta or roast pork loin with a dry coffee rub.
