Sangiovese is one of Italy’s premier grapes. It is responsible for producing all the famous Brunello’s and Chianti’s Italy has to offer. This grape has also found a home in several California wine regions.
Less earthy than the Italian versions, the 2014 Middle Ridge Temecula Valley Sangiovese is full of surprises. Good ones! The beautiful ruby red color leads you to aromas of black cherry, mulberry with hints of coffee and mocha. This is a medium bodied wine more typical of Chianti Classico’s than Brunello’s. On the palate you’ll find delicious mixed berries and roasted savory herbs with a super long red fruit intensive finish.
The tannins, perfect acidity and 14.6% alcohol will make this wine a perfect pairing for the obvious red sauced Italian dishes but step out of the box and try it with a charcuterie plate, mushroom dishes or hard cheeses like Parmigiano, herbed cheeses and aged sheep cheeses as well.
